In 2014, the dry, arid climate persisted in Northern California marking the second year of the drought. The winter was unseasonably warm and dry which encouraged early bud break. Spring came with perfectly timed, gentle rains which added lushness to the growing season and balance to the vines. Summer temperatures were moderate and consistently warm, producing peak fruit flavors and enhancing the floral aspects of the 2014 fruit which reflects the terroir of Kamen Estate.
What an unctuous and seductive Cabernet! This powerhouse abounds with savory aromas, layered with black and purple fruit. Blackberry, ripe blueberry and cassis are magically woven with incredible minerality, hints of cola, chapparel, wild sage, violets, tea box, dark chocolate and black cardamom. All of the aromas deliver through the palate with lots of seductive complexity. Enjoy this wine throughout its decades-long evolution.
“Finally, a candidate for potential perfection is the 175-case 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Kashmir, which is essentially a selection of the finest barrels in the cellars. It is 100% Cabernet with a black/purple color to the rim offering up notes of graphite, pen ink, charcoal, incense, blackberry and cassis. It hits the palate with a full-bodied, thunderous impact of fruit and glycerin, has beautiful, well-integrated tannin, new oak and finishes with a close to 50+-second aftertaste. This is glorious, and possibly the best wine yet offered by Kamen. Drink it over the next 30+ years.” —Robert M. Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate #228, December 30, 2016
