Winegrowing Information

While 2014 was the second year of the drought, it brought beautiful spring rains that encouraged robust canopies. The lush canopies and moderate heat defined a vintage that is both powerful and supple with naturally controlled yields.

Tasting Notes

The 2014 Lava Block is not only a beautiful expression of mountain grown Cabernet Sauvignon, but a pure expression of terroir! The aroma abounds with densely layered notes of ripe blackberries, blueberries, créme de cassis and soaring minerality indicative of this micro-site. Hints of violets, sweet cigar box, espresso and bittersweet chocolate compliment this expansive wine.

The palate is serious, gripping and decadent. The ample flavors of purple and black fruits, currants and forest floor lead generously to fine grained tannins and a long, weighty finish. This wine will deliver from first sip to finish over the next two decades.
